Beautiful Paintings – Relearning to Make Art in Oils

I have a passion for beautiful paintings and drawings. Several years ago, I began learning to paint in oils using a method resembling that of the Renaissance masters. The idea is to gradually build up an image using multiple layers of thin paint. I’m not so naive as to think the way I do it is 100% historically accurate, but it’s in that ballpark and after some experimentation I’ve found a method that works for me.

Despite studying Fine Art at university, I’ve neglected my passion for creating beautiful paintings for a long time. This summer I committed myself to completing two small works in oil by the end of August. I deliberately chose subjects that were uncomplicated and simple but which appeal to me… this is so I can concentrate on fine tuning my technique. I’m a kind of a Buddhist, so I chose lotus flowers. I’ve been diligently working away, painting for a couple of hours every day.

I have now completed both paintings. At least, the actual painting part of the process is finished but, they’ll both need to sit and dry for another 5 months before being varnished – then they’ll be ready to be framed.

The originals are available for sale. If you’re interested, please contact me by email. Please be aware, I won’t be able to mail it to you until the end of this year when it has been varnished properly. High quality reproductions are now available at Redbubble.com. They are available framed or unframed, on paper, canvas or metal. In addition, I’ve created a range of products which feature this painting; including tote bags, phone cases, t-shirts, cushions covers, laptop sleeves, stickers… and lots more. They’re a wonderful way to buy your own little piece of art at an affordable price.
